MOSCOW, January 16 The American magazine Variety called Andrei Tarkovsky “a Polish director.”
The publication interviewed director Alexei German Jr. When asked to comment on the exclusion of Russian artists from participating in film festivals after the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine, he recalled that a significant number of Tarkovsky’s films were never shown at international festivals. The publication, in turn, indicated in the notes that Tarkovsky is a “famous Polish director.”
People's Artist of the RSFSR Andrei Tarkovsky was born on April 4, 1932 in the village of Zavrazhye, Yuryevets district, Ivanovo region. The world-famous director has directed the films “Andrei Rublev”, “Ivan’s Childhood”, “Solaris”, “Mirror” and “Stalker”, “Sacrifice”, “Nostalgia”. Since 2007, the international film festival “Zerkalo” named after Andrei Tarkovsky has been held annually in the director’s homeland in the Ivanovo region.
