TEHRAN, January 20The Soraya satellite of the Iranian Space Agency was successfully launched into orbit at an altitude of 750 kilometers, the Iranian government announced in the official Telegram channel.
“The Soraya satellite, owned by the Iranian Space Agency (Iranian Ministry of Information and Telecommunications Technology — ed.), was successfully launched using a three-stage solid-propellant launch vehicle Gaem-100 of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, the elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces — ed. .) and launched into orbit at an altitude of 750 kilometers,” the government said in a statement.
The Minister of Information and Communications Technology of the Islamic Republic, Isa Zarepour, said at the end of November that Iran plans to launch five new satellites into space before the end of the Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2024).
On the eve of this, the head of the Iranian Space Agency Hassan Salariye said that specialists from one of Iran’s research centers have prepared a biocapsule for launch into space. Zarepour announced in October that the country would conduct the first tests of a biocapsule designed to send astronauts in the next one to two months, he said, Iran is working to send a person into space in the next five years.
Previously, Zarepur reported that the IRGC Aerospace Forces successfully launched the third military satellite, Nur-3, into Earth orbit. Later it became known that Iran plans to launch two more satellites into orbit by the end of March 2024.
