Now the “charged” sedan and station wagon of the Bavarian brand are preparing for an imminent premiere. There is practically no official information about the technology of new products yet.
The production of the BMW 5 series started in 1972, while the presentation of the four-door version of the current generation model (G60 series) took place in May last year. At the same time, an all-electric sedan debuted, which received its own name – BMW i5, and a rechargeable hybrid “five” appeared in the fall of 2023. At the beginning of this month, five-door versions of the model were presented: we are talking about the sixth generation BMW 5 series Touring station wagon and its “green” modification – the i5 Touring. The family is still waiting for a replenishment in the form of the new “charged” M5 and M5 Touring.

It is expected that the premiere of new products will take place in the near future; production of the new BMW M5 sedan will start in July of this year, and in November it will be joined by a “hot” station wagon. So far, the Bavarians are keeping the appearance of the “emok” a secret, but the designer of Kolesa.ru has previously suggested what the “charged” four-door and “barn” will look like.
Now new technical details of the BMW M5 and M5 Touring have appeared, but it is worth noting that they are still unofficial: the information was published on the Bimmer Post website. Judging by the data of one of the users, the curb weight of the “charged” four-door of the new generation will be 2435 kg. It is worth noting that this figure is almost half a ton (453 kg) more compared to its predecessor (F90 series). Moreover, the curb weight of the current Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is approximately 2.4 tons.

According to the report, the M5 sedan will grow in size: it is expected that, compared to its predecessor, its overall length will increase by 36 mm and its width by 70 mm. Let us remind you that the current version of the “charged” four-door has a length of 4965 mm and a width of 1903 mm. What dimensions and curb weight the “hot” station wagon will have will become known later.
There is still very little official data on the “filling” of the charged sedan and station wagon. So far, the company has only said that the model will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid power plant based on a V8. A user of a website for fans of the brand reports that the new Emkas will receive the same hybrid system that is equipped with the XM crossover, which will debut in the fall of 2022.
According to preliminary data, the power plant of the BMW M5 and M5 Touring will be based on a 4.4-liter biturbo engine with a capacity of 577 hp. (maximum torque – 750 Nm). It is expected that it will work in tandem with an electric motor producing 194 hp. (280 Nm). The expected total output of the system is 718 hp. It will also likely include a battery with a capacity of 18.6 kWh (the XM crossover has 25.7 kWh); The range when driving on electric power alone has not yet been announced.

At the end of last year, the Bavarian manufacturer published a video teaser of a camouflaged prototype of the new “charged” station wagon. Judging by the video, the Emok will have a different design for the lower part of the front bumper with different air intakes, and the models will also receive slightly widened wheel arches. It is expected that the five-door will be equipped with a large split spoiler on the top of the tailgate.
