Lada is preparing to resume production of Largus in Izhevsk: production of a pilot batch has started

By the end of this week, five “trial” commercial vans will roll off the assembly line of a plant located in the Udmurt Republic.

AVTOVAZ began production of its “workhorse” Lada Largus in 2012, production was established at the facilities of an enterprise located in Tolyatti. The donor for this model was the first generation Dacia Logan MCV (as part of the partnership between AVTOVAZ and the French Renault group, which owns the Romanian brand). Largus was seriously updated in 2021; in the spring of 2022, the production of cars was stopped due to a shortage of components.

After this, the model was sporadically returned to the assembly line: some of the cars were assembled from vehicle kits remaining at the plant, another batch consisted of “testers” for the all-electric version – e-Largus. At the same time, the company last year decided to transfer the production of Lada Largus to a plant owned by AVTOVAZ, located in Izhevsk (Udmurt Republic).

As the company’s press service said, production of a pilot batch of Lada Largus has now started “at the new place of registration.” It is known that the first five commercial vans will roll off the assembly line by the end of this week. According to AVTOVAZ President Maxim Sokolov, the total volume of Largus included in the pilot batch until May will be about 80 units (including the passenger version).

According to him, the pilot batch of machines will make it possible to “test full-cycle production technologies”, “conduct personnel training”, and also “validate parameters and equipment settings.” Maxim Sokolov also confirmed that full-scale serial production of the Lada Largus will start in May of this year. Earlier it was reported that at the same time the company would begin producing “green” station wagons and e-Largus vans.

Earlier it became known that by the end of this year the Izhevsk plant will produce up to 50 thousand copies of the model (in all modifications), the head of Udmurtia, Alexander Brechalov, spoke about this last month.

The Lada Largus engine line includes four-cylinder engines with a volume of 1.6 liters: the younger eight-valve engine has a recoil equal to 90 hp, and the power of the older “sixteen-valve” engine is 106 hp. They come only with a five-speed manual transmission. Largus needs 14.3 seconds to accelerate from zero to “hundreds” in the first case, 13.1 seconds in the second.

Lada e-Largus is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, its rated power is 50 kW, short-term peak power is 120 kW. The lithium-ion battery is divided into two modules (one is located in the engine compartment, the second is located under the floor of the body, where the gas tank is in “regular” cars). There is no data on capacity and power reserve on one charge yet. This modification takes less than ten seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. The prototype of the “electric train” was presented at the end of 2022.

The company recalled that the decision to transfer Largus production to the Lada Izhevsk plant was made due to the need to free up the capacity of the Togliatti site for the production of new models on the Vesta platform in 2024-2026: one of these new products will be the previously announced crossover .
