Geely has announced a new version of the Radar RD6 pickup truck: the long-awaited all-wheel drive?

The new version will also be distinguished by the design of the front part. The premiere of such a truck will take place next week.

The Radar brand appeared in the portfolio of the Chinese holding Geely Auto in 2022, it was created to produce mainly electrified pickups, although a crossover and an ATV are also promised. But the only model so far remains the rear-wheel drive electric truck RD6 with a monocoque body. The car is built on the SEA platform, which also underlies the electric vehicles of other brands owned by Geely. By the way, its body is a derivative of the pre-reform Geely HaoYue/Okavango SUV, and the Radar RD6 inherited the interior from it. Well, now a new version of this pickup has been announced.

The published teaser shows that the RD6 will have a tweaked exterior design: instead of letters with the brand name on the hood there will be a large Radar inscription on a plug imitating a radiator grille. It was announced that the maximum wading depth will be 815 mm, and the load capacity will be 865 kg. In addition, the new product seems to reach the first “hundred” in just four seconds. And these are all the official details for now.

Meanwhile, As part of the premiere of the RD6, an all-wheel drive version was announced, and at the beginning of this year the brand itself began to promote such a modification by posting a video of its testing on the Internet. Finally, not long ago a photo of a truck with a 4WD badge was added to the database of the Ministry of Industry of the People's Republic of China. That is, obviously, the twin-engine Radar RD6 is preparing for its debut.

The current pickup truck has a 272 hp electric motor installed on the rear axle. The new version, according to the certificate, will also have a front electric motor with 156 hp, the estimated total output of the two engines is 428 hp. The batteries will most likely be transferred from the current RD6: with a capacity of 63 kWh, 82 kWh or 100 kWh. The power reserve of the rear-wheel drive Radar with a basic battery is 410 km according to the CLTC cycle, with a “medium” one – 550 km, with a top-end one – 632 km.

The presentation of the new version of Radar RD6 is scheduled for February 26. A rear-wheel drive pickup truck in China today costs from 145,800 to 268,800 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 1,867,000 – 3,442,000 rubles at the current exchange rate.

Last year, Geely announced plans to transform the Radar RD6 into a global model, an export batch was even released. But the pickup truck has not yet appeared legally on foreign markets.
