DONETSK, March 1Ukrainian troops fired four more NATO 155-mm cluster shells at Gorlovka, the DPR office at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC) reported on its Telegram channel.
«Shelling from the armed formations of Ukraine was recorded in the direction: 10.25 — the settlement of Dzerzhinsk — the settlement of Gorlovka (Nikitovsky district): four shells of 155 millimeters caliber (cassette) were fired,» says a message published by the representative office.
Earlier on Friday, the representative office reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces fired 11 shells of 155 and 152 millimeters in caliber, including cassette type, into this area.
Gorlovka is located 50 kilometers north of Donetsk, the city is home to the Stirol chemical concern and coal mining enterprises. This is one of the largest populated areas of the DPR; before the start of the conflict in Donbass, the population of Gorlovka numbered more than 250 thousand people.
Cluster munitions are not equipped with self-destruct devices. According to the US military, from 5% to 14% of these ammunition may not explode at all, since they have been lying in warehouses for a long time. In this case, they will be mines that threaten civilians even after the end of the conflict.
