Inventor Butusov patented a new sundial

They will be able to show what color the light is at the moment

A clock that will show not only the time, but also the color of the sun at different periods of the day, was recently patented by an inventor from St. Petersburg Daniil Butusov. Thanks to them, you can find out about the time of day anywhere, not only by the dial, but also by the “solar” indicator.

The new clock can safely be called a sundial, but if an ordinary sundial shows the time during daylight hours and is completely dependent on the main luminary, then the accuracy of time shown by the clock invented by the St. Petersburger will depend only on its mechanism.

B Butusov's watches are basically mechanical, like regular watches; they have hour and minute hands. The 24-hour dial that the inventor plans to use is also not new. An innovation is two ring disks installed around the perimeter of the dial. The top one is movable, the bottom one is not.

The lower disk is colored in “morning”, “day”, “evening” and “night”, that is, in the colors that the sun acquires during daylight hours, and in black when the sun is not visible. The lightest, almost white part of the disk occurs at noon, when the sun is at its zenith. Before and after this part on the disk there is a bright yellow color. After this, as the author of the invention notes, the sun becomes orange or reddish for the human eye, therefore, next to the black, night part of the disk, these are the colors.

In the upper, movable disk there is a hole, which, moving clockwise, allows you to determine what period of daylight it is. But the movement does not occur at the speed of the arrow; it is regulated using an additional device. Depending on the time of year, the expected time of sunrise and sunset, the disk slows down or speeds up at certain hours. That is, on the day of the summer solstice, the disk will rotate faster above the black stripe of the lower disk, and on the winter solstice — above the multi-colored one. And only on the days of the equinox will the upper disk rotate evenly throughout the day.
