An expert group created under the Russian Ministry of Construction on the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in construction, which is supervised by DOM.RF, will focus on five areas of work within separate subgroups. As Alexander Lukyanov, director of digitalization of the housing sector at DOM.RF, said at the RSN-2024 forum, this work is a necessary condition for the maximum effect from the use of technology.
The first group of experts is already creating a methodology for assessing the penetration of AI technologies in the construction industry. For this purpose, a methodology will be developed, surveys of developers and analysis will be prepared. The second direction is identifying key solutions for the implementation of AI and creating a public registry of AI solutions.
“We are expanding the format of the expert group’s work for more efficient activities, making it more specialized and targeted. Another important task is to connect as many market participants as possible to AI interaction: developers, experts, developers. This will help polish the legislation in the field of data exchange,” said Nikolai Kozak, Managing Director for IT and Digital Transformation at DOM.RF.
The third subgroup will identify and level out regulatory obstacles to the development of AI within various stages of construction. The tasks of the fourth subgroup will include developing programs for advanced training and retraining of personnel in AI technologies, planning professional competitions for students and monitoring the shortage of specialists. The fifth will deal with removing obstacles to data exchange, developing an industry data platform and increasing their availability.
DOM.RF identifies several main obstacles to the implementation of AI in construction. In particular, insufficient training of developers in the field of AI and ML, use of technology by non-core specialists and duplication of functions. Another factor is the lack of computing power needed to platform ML solutions. The third is the lack of the required amount of machine-readable data and labeled datasets. Another difficulty is the inconsistency in databases and the need to combine them into a single ecosystem.
