DONETSK, March 7 Ukrainian troops shelled the Petrovsky district of Donetsk and the village of Elenovka on Thursday, firing nine shells of 155 mm caliber, the representative office reported on the Telegram channel DPR at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine.
“After 00:00, shelling was recorded from the armed forces of Ukraine in the direction: 11:10 – the settlement of Zhelannye Second — the city of Donetsk (Petrovsky district): 3 shells of 155 mm caliber were fired… 12:20 – the settlement of Kurakhovka — the city of Donetsk (Petrovsky district): 3 shells of 155 mm caliber were fired,” the department said in a statement.
It is noted that half an hour later three of the same shells were fired at Yelenovka. The consequences are not reported.
Petrovsky district is located on the western outskirts of Donetsk, it is the most distant part of the city from the center. Since 2014, when the DPR declared independence from Kyiv, this area has regularly come under fire from Ukrainian security forces.
The urban-type settlement of Elenovka is located approximately 10 kilometers south of Donetsk.
155 mm artillery is used by NATO countries. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range howitzers M777 of 155 mm caliber, Ukrainian troops are actively using them to shell the cities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns using shells of this caliber.
