Updated Kia Sportage: first images

The Korean company is preparing a restyled version of the popular crossover, but in the meantime, using the available spy footage, we have formed our own idea of ​​​​the appearance of the new product.

The history of the Sportage model began in 1993, it was then that production of the first crossover in the Kia model range began. Today, the fifth generation of the SUV is already on the assembly line; its premiere took place in the summer of 2021. It received a very original design that does not overlap with other models of the company. Judging by the footage of camouflaged spy prototypes, the Koreans decided to slightly “trim” the appearance to match the current Kia style.

For now, the bodies of the test samples are hidden under a thick layer of camouflage, but some details can already be seen. The biggest changes will occur at the front, with large headlight units with vertical LED strips at the bottom. At the top, which is still hidden by camouflage, there should be horizontal stripes stretched along the edge of the hood. Sportage will retain a large radiator grille and, most likely, a characteristic horizontal insert in its upper part. From the side, no significant changes are expected, but from the rear, only new graphics of the lights are visible, which will become a little more angular (while the shape of the rear optics may remain the same). The rear bumper will also probably be corrected, and we have presented one of the possible options for its design.

About There is no reliable information about technical changes yet. It is quite possible that the updated model will partially or completely retain the engine range of the current crossover. Depending on the market, Sportage is offered with 2.0 MPI and 2.5 GDI naturally aspirated petrol engines, 1.5 T-GDI, 1.6 T-GDI and 2.0 T-GDI turbo engines, as well as 1.6 CRDi and 2.0 CRDi diesel engines. In addition, there are hybrid modifications — both “mild” HEV and rechargeable PHEV. Gearboxes also differ: depending on the engine, the crossover can be equipped with a 7-speed “robot” with two clutches, a 6- or 8-speed “automatic”.
