BERLIN, March 16Scientists from the Bavarian University of Würzburg are testing two of their robots in Armenia for future flights to Mars, as well as new space suits, reports the German newspaper Bild.
“»Researchers from the University of Würzburg are testing two of their robots in Armenia for future flights to Mars. The research team will stay in the village of Armash, famous for growing tomatoes and watermelons, until the beginning of April,» the newspaper writes.
It is also noted that two women and four men will test new types of spacesuits and their interaction with robots in complete isolation.
As the newspaper explains, the mission, called Amadee-24, involves more than 200 scientists from 26 countries. During the research, the “astronauts” are in constant contact with a simulated control station operated by the Austrian Space Forum and the Armenian Space Agency. A transmission delay of about ten minutes was artificially included in the radio traffic to bring it closer to the actual conditions of a Mars mission, given the distance between Earth and Mars.
The newspaper also cites the opinion of experts, according to which it will be about 15 years before a person sets foot on Mars for the first time.
