MOSCOW, March 20 The Moscow City Court recognized as legal the extension until mid-May of the arrest of the leader of the Left Front Sergei Udaltsov* in the case of justifying terrorism, they reported in a court.
“The decision of the Basmanny Court of Moscow was left unchanged, the appeal was not satisfied,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
The capital's Basmanny Court in mid-February, behind closed doors, extended the arrest of Udaltsov* until May 15.
Udaltsov* was charged with justifying terrorism on the Internet; the criminal article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to seven years. As the politician’s defense stated, all lawyers were required to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
The politician told reporters that he was accused of posting posts “in support of the guys from Ufa” — members of the “Marxist circle” who were arrested in connection with the creation of a terrorist community. The politician emphasized that he does not admit guilt.
Udaltsov* is the founder of the social movement of supporters of socialism “Left Front”. He was repeatedly detained in the center of Moscow for participating in uncoordinated actions and demonstrations. In the summer of 2014, he was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for organizing riots on Bolotnaya Square in Moscow in May 2012, as well as planning similar actions in other regions of Russia.
The last time before a criminal case, Udaltsov* was detained in December 2023 for holding an unauthorized rally on Red Square.
