MOSCOW, March 20 The Parliament of Ukraine is working on a law that would allow the deprivation of honorary titles, including from foreign artists, said the head of the parliamentary committee on humanitarian and information policy Nikita Poturaev.
«»Our law is very simple. There is only one criterion: if the court pronounces a verdict of high treason, a representation is made so that the president is informed, and such a person is deprived of his titles… This applies not only to citizens of Ukraine, this applies to foreign citizens,» Poturaev said on the air of the Ukrainian news telethon.
In this context, Poturaev cited the example of the Russian artist Philip Kirkorov, who, in his words, “still walks around with Ukrainian titles.”
According to the deputy from the European Solidarity party Vladimir Vyatrovich, who also spoke on air, the bill was adopted in the first reading last year, now it is being finalized, which is being hampered by opposition deputies . Vyatrovich noted that in addition to the court decision, the artist’s inclusion in the sanctions list could serve as a reason for deprivation of honorary titles.
Previously, the Ukrainian authorities repeatedly brought charges in absentia and sentenced representatives of Russia, but this did not lead to any consequences. Also in January last year, a bill was introduced to the Rada to deprive artists who “have proven themselves to be traitors” of state awards.
