The German tuning studio Manhart Performance from Wuppertal has modified the plug-in hybrid sports sedan Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance and tried to rid it of one of its main shortcomings — the unconvincing exhaust sound.
The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance sports sedan belongs to the W206 generation, that is, the latest model at the moment; it made its world premiere in September 2022 and surprised Mercedes-Benz fans with the devaluation of the index. In the previous generation, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S had a 4.0-liter 510-horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine (factory index M177) with a corresponding bass roar, while the plug-in hybrid power plant of the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance is built around 2. 0-liter inline four M139, equipped with a combined supercharging (the impeller is connected to an electric motor that compensates for the natural turbo lag) and supplemented with a starter-generator. The rear wheels in the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance can be driven by both an internal combustion engine and a separate electric motor, combined into one unit with a two-stage gearbox and a rear cross-axle differential.

The maximum total output of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance power plant is 680 hp. and 1020 Nm. It would seem that this is a lot, but maximum output is only available with a charged buffer battery with a capacity of 6.1 kWh. In addition, the hybrid superstructure and the all-wheel drive system standard for the new sports sedan have led to the fact that the top-end “tseshka” has become heavier by almost four centners with the change of generations: the curb weight is 2165 kg! The electric range is only 13 km. The sound of the M139 engine is generally not bad, but only by the standards of a hot hatch; for a mid-size sedan in top-end equipment it lacks solidity. In general, it turned out to be complex, expensive, heavy and unconvincing in sound.
The specialists from the Manhart Performance studio, even if they wanted, could not significantly lighten the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance, but they did a good job with the exhaust: the new exhaust manifold gives a deeper and richer sound, similar to the sound of a V8 exhaust. The M139 engine also received a new MHtronik control unit, which increased the maximum total output of the power plant to 725 hp. and 1120 Nm. The tuner does not say how the increase affected the dynamics; the stock Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance reaches the first “hundred” in 3.4 seconds, the maximum speed is 280 km/h.

As a result of pumping Manhart, the sports sedan received, in addition, a lowered suspension with H&R springs and new openwork wheels, shod with low-profile tires measuring 265/35 ZR 20 at the front and 275/35 ZR 20 at the rear. The tuner left the brakes stock, but at the customer’s request, more powerful ones can be installed, including carbon-ceramic ones. The look is complemented by decorative stickers and red stripes from Manhart throughout the body, including on the mirrors. The interior is stock, but again, if the client wants, it can be altered and decorated with additional carbon fiber inserts.

The price of the Manhart CRE 700 has not been announced, but the stock Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance currently costs in Germany from 115,175 euros.
