SIMFEROPOL, March 25The luminous object, splitting into parts, which was observed in the evening sky by residents of the Far East, was not a comet, but the combustion of a spacecraft or part of a launch vehicle in the earth’s atmosphere, Crimean astronomers believe.
Huge luminous stripes were noticed in the evening sky by residents of the Khabarovsk Territory and neighboring regions. The luminous object split into parts and slowly moved in the sky. Some observers thought they saw a rocket take off, or the passage of a comet or meteorite.
«This is definitely not a comet, since the fall of a comet in the earth's atmosphere always occurs at much higher speeds and with greater energy release. Fragmentation in the atmosphere into relatively long-lived parts is also not observed in comets. As a rule, such fragmentation says that we are faced with the destruction of a complex structure consisting of many durable elements that can be destroyed in the atmosphere for a long time, for example, a rocket stage or a satellite,” said astronomer, researcher at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory Sergei Nazarov.
Crimean amateur astronomer Alexander Yakushechkin has a similar opinion. In his opinion, a fall of a spacecraft or part of a launch vehicle was observed in the Far East.
«In the video we see precisely the destruction of a certain block structure, when individual blocks are destroyed and then burned. This is exactly what the destruction of, for example, the Soviet-Russian orbital station Mir looked like. This is not a meteorite, the combustion and destruction of which occur otherwise and very often accompanied by the sounds of explosions and roars,” said Yakushechkin.
