Russia is developing an armored vehicle to destroy bombs and land mines

MOSCOW, March 30A special armored vehicle is being created to transport unexploded aerial bombs, land mines and other large ammunition weighing up to one and a half tons to the test site, the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations (VNII GOChS) reports on its website.
«In 2023, the institute, commissioned by the department of rescue teams of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, developed a technical specification for the creation of such a special vehicle. The requirements for it were determined and its promising technical appearance was formed,» says a message on the website of the All-Russian Research Institute of Civil Defense and Emergencies.

It is noted that the pyrotechnic vehicle will include a remote-controlled robot that will deliver the ammunition to the place of its destruction if the dimensions of the vehicle do not allow it to be approached.

In addition, it is planned to install a crane, a compartment with special equipment, a cargo container body, as well as explosion-proof containers.
“The crane will make it possible to load an explosive object weighing almost one and a half tons into a container body. It will be controlled remotely using a remote control from a safe place,” emphasizes the VNII GOChS.

According to the idea of ​​the institute's scientists, the explosion-proof container should ensure the safe transportation of explosive objects weighing up to five kilograms in TNT equivalent.

«The main task that we set for ourselves is that the new development should provide an increased level of safety for pyrotechnicians when transporting explosive objects. It may be impossible to destroy ammunition at the point of detection, for example, within the boundaries of a dense city development or near a critically important facility, and then their safe transportation to a special site is required,” the words of Vladimir Moshkov, deputy head of the All-Russian Research Institute of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations, are quoted on the website.
He noted that this can be achieved through remote control of technical means that ensure the safe removal of sappers from ammunition, armoring the cabin, as well as using a special explosion-proof container body for transportation.
