MOSCOW, March 29 The leaders in global microchip exports last year traditionally were Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, China and South Korea, and among the economies , the leaders in the import of this product included all the same countries, but in a different order — China was in first place, while the global volumes of both exports and imports exceeded one trillion dollars, calculated by studying data from the UN platform Comtrade.
Thus, according to available data, in 2023, Hong Kong became the main exporter of microchips, supplying $193.5 billion worth of them. At the same time, it has held the leadership in chip exports for 10 years (since 2014). Also rounding out the top five were Taiwan with $166.6 billion in exports, Singapore with $137.9 billion, China with $136.3 billion and South Korea with $86.1 billion.
The main importer was China, which bought $350.1 billion worth of chips. The Celestial Empire has been in first place for 22 years (since 2002). In addition, Hong Kong entered the top 5 for imports with purchase volumes of $202.6 billion, Singapore — $113.4 billion, Taiwan — $73.2 billion and South Korea — $51.7 billion.
Kuwait increased its exports the most among all countries from 2022 to 2023 — 147 times in monetary terms. But among the top five, only Singapore showed an increase in sales — by 13%. The remaining leaders reduced exports: South Korea — by 24%, China — by 12%, Taiwan — by 10% and Hong Kong — by 10%. Imports grew the most in Albania — 4,381 times. And among the leaders in imports, the increase was still only in Singapore — by 5%, while in other countries imports decreased: in South Korea and Taiwan — by 17%, in China — by 16%, in Hong Kong — by 9%.
At the same time, Russia reportedly exported more than $14.5 million worth of microchips, ranking 56th in the world in terms of sales. Russian imports amounted to more than $437.5 million (42nd place in the world).
