VORONEZH, April 2 A man who set fire to the election commission table with ballots at one of the polling stations in Voronezh during the presidential elections , will appear in court, the regional department of the Russian Investigative Committee reported on Tuesday in a telegram channel.
As previously reported by the investigation, at about 17.00 Moscow time on March 15, a 50-year-old man at one of the polling stations in the Leninsky district of Voronezh, using clothes soaked in gasoline, set fire to the table of members of the election commission, on which there were ballots, books of voter lists and other documents. The work of the election commission was temporarily suspended, and a case was opened against the man under the article “obstruction of the exercise of electoral rights or the work of election commissions.”
“During the preliminary investigation, the accused admitted his guilt in full. The investigation collected an exhaustive evidence base, which made it possible to expose a local resident of committing this crime. The indictment was approved by the prosecutor and handed over to the accused, in the near future the criminal case will be sent to court for consideration on the merits,” — the message says.
As the investigation established, in March 2024, as yet unidentified persons contacted the man via messenger and “under the pretext of returning and preserving funds in the amount of about 600 thousand rubles, which he had previously transferred to the scammers, they offered to set fire to the table at the polling station.”
““The local resident agreed with this proposal, saying that he would use previously purchased gasoline,” the message says.
In the Voronezh region, on voting days on March 15-17, several incidents occurred at polling stations. In particular, on March 15 in Borisoglebsk, at polling stations No. 0409 and No. 0430, two women poured brilliant green into ballot boxes. As a result, voting using these ballot boxes was stopped. Local residents, 58 and 66 years old, were detained. The investigation has opened criminal cases against them under the article “obstruction of the exercise of electoral rights or the work of election commissions.” And on March 16, at polling station No. 0428 in the same Borisoglebsk, a 19-year-old girl poured brilliant green into the ballot box. Voting using this ballot box has been discontinued.
