US authorities are monitoring the situation with the development of anti-satellite weapons in the Russian Federation, while maintaining contacts with Moscow and allies on this issue, the Pentagon said in response to a request from RIA News.

Russia's development of anti-satellite weapons has been called “concerning” by the Pentagon and related plans “irresponsible.”

“We are taking a number of actions in response to this development, including We are coordinating with allies and partners, and also directly communicating with Russia,” the Pentagon said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Western countries regularly spread fakes about Russia’s plans to place nuclear weapons in space in order to draw in Russia into beneficial negotiations. The head of state noted that Moscow has no such plans.
