CHELYABINSK, April 8Residents of Kurgan need to stock up on water due to the risk of flooding of water intake structures, said General Director of JSC Water Union Vladimir Ovsyannikov in a video published on the Telegram channel of the regional government.
«Due to new information on the flood level, there is a risk of flooding water intake structures in Kurgan. Therefore, all residents need to make a monthly supply of water for drinking and household needs. Use all containers. Now water is supplied to the city in normal mode and quality,» he said.
According to Ovsyannikov, there is still time to stock up, but it is extremely limited.
A regional-level emergency regime is in effect in the Kurgan region. The water level in Tobol, according to forecasts from Roshydromet and colleagues from Kazakhstan, will exceed 11 meters. 62 settlements, 4,300 houses, 5,550 household plots and 600 summer cottages may be in the flood zone.
Floods in the regions
The regions of the Southern Urals have faced unprecedented floods this year. The most difficult situation is in the Orenburg region. On Friday, April 5, the dam that protected the city of Orsk from the Ural River broke. The authorities carried out a mass evacuation of residents from the Old City. A state of emergency on a federal scale was introduced in the region, and the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, arrived on the scene. As of 14:00 on April 8, 10,390 residential buildings and 18,662 household plots were flooded.
Vladimir Putin ordered the creation of a government commission to coordinate the work and eliminate the consequences.
The authorities of neighboring Kazakhstan stated that the current floods are the largest in the last 80-plus years, and a state of emergency has been introduced in some regions of the country.
