MOSCOW, March 15, Anastasia Silkina. The Russians named him singer of the year; for three nights in a row he has sold out the largest venue in the capital — and this is less than six months after the previous concert series. SHAMAN himself (Yaroslav Dronov) is frank: we need to work smartly. The singer spoke about lyrics, popularity and its reverse side in an interview.
— Yaroslav, already in the title of the program that you presented in Moscow, the emphasis is on the lyrics — “You are mine.” Does this mean that now this topic will prevail over the patriotic one?
— From my first solo concert as SHAMAN, I had a few patriotic songs in my repertoire: “Let’s Rise,” then “I am Russian,” and only then the Russian anthem. All other compositions are lyrical, because they are an integral part of me. It’s a great opportunity to extend the March 8 holiday, and I took advantage of it. And, judging by the third sell-out in a row at Crocus, he did it successfully!
— Have you made a new meeting with Moscow fans?
— Yes, tickets for concert March 9, 2025. The name is the same: “You are mine — 2025”, but the program will be updated. I am constantly writing songs, there will be a different stage design, lighting.
— That is, this is an exclusive holiday story, and on tour the accents are the same?
— Yes, we continue the “I am Russian” tour, which started in 2023.
But the fact that tickets for the holiday concerts sold out so quickly is a reason to think about it and, perhaps, in the future, dedicate all March concerts to a lyrical program.
Everyone says: a patriotic singer. Please — lyrical program, and the people are coming.
— Are you going to new regions again?
— The tour of the cities of New Russia began in January 2023 and did not end. We have already visited Lugansk, Mariupol, Snezhny, Krasnodon, Genichesk, and Saur-Mogila. The list will continue to grow.
The most gratifying thing for me is that we are showing absolutely the same thing there, with the same light and sound, as throughout the country. This was one of my conditions: not just to go out and sing with a guitar, but to put on a full-fledged show.
— Last year, the Russians recognized you as singer of the year, and by a wide margin. What do you connect this with?
— Honest songs, honest creativity — this is, of course, the first layer. A new person on stage always attracts increased attention and interest. The challenge here is to continue to write and release good songs, and to maintain attention both on and off stage. The audience will not be satisfied with songs alone. Here you need a head: it needs to be bright and at the same time in a positive way.
For example, on the March 8 holiday itself, I decided to perform in the Mozhaisk women’s colony. He sang for women who, for obvious reasons, were deprived of male attention. He arranged the premiere of the new song “Mom”, gave them compliments and gave them flowers.
— Inviting children from an orphanage to a concert in Moscow is also work “on the bright side”?
— Absolutely right. I am very glad that it turned out to be such a gift for them. The guys became the heroes of my video for the song “Mama,” which was given to me by composer Maxim Fadeev and poetess Natalya Kasimtseva. When the question arose of where to shoot the video, I decided: in my small homeland — in the Tula region, in an orphanage.
— This composition is unique in your repertoire — you write the rest yourself. Why did they make an exception?
— I really liked the song. It seems to me that she leaves no one indifferent and can break through even the hardest heart. It’s not for nothing that they say: mother is sacred.
—You have your own production center. Are you going to work with other artists?
— For now, the leading and only artist of the production center is SHAMAN. But the whole team is assembled to work on other projects.
— How do you see them?
— These can be completely different artists. It is very important to coincide in spirit. Writing a song to a person is like sewing a suit: it must fit perfectly.
We have examples of a perfect hit, when the artist and producer are one.
— Like Igor Matvienko and “Lube” «?
— Exactly. They have been together for many years, have released many hits, and are selling out. Everything fit together like a puzzle.
— You are now working together on the ethno-opera “Prince Vladimir”. How's it going?
— We are rehearsing at full speed. I agreed without hesitation when they offered to play Prince Vladimir. Nowadays, few people deal with large forms, but Igor Matvienko took it up. This opera has almost all genres: ethno, rock, pop, classical, and even elements of rap. Very interesting!
— Is this your first experience with the opera format?
— Yes, but I perform there not in a classical manner, but with a mixture of pop and Russian folk songs. Since this is an ethno-opera, I try to introduce root notes. By first education, I am the director of a folk choir — this is all close to me.
— Recently, the media was spreading a story about how some artists allegedly refuse to perform with you. What do you think about this?
— The earth is full of rumors. If this is being discussed, it means that people are missing some spice, some kind of serial story with fried details. I understand this, because being curious and gossiping is a normal human phenomenon.
— Has someone approached you: “I don’t want to perform with you?”
— Not once. Yes, it seems to me that no one has the spirit to say so.
—More about what is being discussed. Your look at the beginning of the show with long hair created a sensation. Are you testing a change in image?
— An artist must surprise. This program is dedicated to the entire beautiful half of humanity. And almost every girl dreams of a prince. So I create the “wow effect” in such a fabulous way. This is all my inner producer.
