Extinction Before the rally protest Rebellion said activists would block the main road leading into The Hague, but a heavy police presence, including officers on horseback, initially prevented them from taking to the road.

During previous protests, police took detained protesters to another part of the city, where they were released. Local police were not available for comment on Saturday.
Ms Thunberg became the face of young climate activists around the world after organizing weekly protests outside the Swedish parliament in 2018.
She has been detained repeatedly , including Germany, Norway, Sweden and the UK.
