A native of Rostov-on-Don, Vakulenko, announced at the end of January 2024 that the team would move from professional football to media football.

Vakulenko also told how much he had to spend on the team when it performed at the professional level. “In professional football, I spent from 60 to 90 million rubles a year. I cannot disclose how much I spend now,” added Vakulenko.
Vakulenko became the owner of SKA-Rostov in October 2019. In the 2022/23 season, the Rostovites were relegated to Division B of the Second League.
