CHELYABINSK, April 14 The water level in the Tobol River near Kurgan has increased by 65 centimeters since Sunday morning, according to the city administration’s website.< br />According to the geoportal informing about the flood situation in this region, by 18:00 (16:00 Moscow time) the water level near Kurgan reached 556 centimeters.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 304 houses and 473 household plots are currently flooded in the region. More than 7.1 thousand residents were evacuated preventively, 885 people are in temporary accommodation centers.
The peak of the flood in Kurgan is expected on April 14-15. At the same time, another 62 settlements, 4,300 houses, 5,550 household plots and 600 summer cottages could be flooded. Presumably, 18,718 people will be in the emergency zone.
A regional-scale emergency regime is in effect in the region.

Unprecedented flood
The regions of the Southern Urals faced record floods this year. The most difficult situation is in the Orenburg region. On April 5, the dam that protected Orsk from the waters of the Ural River broke through. Authorities carried out mass evacuations. On Sunday, the water level in the Orenburg region began to decline for the first time.
A federal state of emergency was introduced in the region. The regional government estimates the estimated damage from the flood at 21 billion rubles.
A state of emergency is also in effect in the Tyumen region. Today the evacuation of two villages began there. 51 settlements, 1,847 houses and 7,291 people are at risk of flooding. The most tense situation with the release of water onto the floodplains is expected by April 20, with a peak on April 23-25.
The authorities of neighboring Kazakhstan stated that the current floods are the largest in the last 80-plus years.
