MOSCOW, April 19< /strong>The opening of the 46th Moscow International Film Festival took place on Friday at the Rossiya Theater; the festival's president, Nikita Mikhalkov, and the chairman of the main competition jury, Fridrik Thor Fridriksson, announced the start of the festival on stage, the correspondent reports.
“»I think that this is the great courage of all those who came to us, brought their paintings or became members of the jury. I am convinced that these are the same people, firstly, for whom art is more important than everything else, and secondly, because they understand that we are right,” Mikhalkov said, opening the ceremony.
The red carpet of the festival's opening ceremony was attended by Russian film stars and guests from abroad. The chairman of the jury of the main program of the 46th Moscow International Film Festival, Fridrik Thor Fridriksson, walked along the path in the company of a member of the jury of the main competition, director Igor Voloshin. People's Artist of Russia, artistic director of the Theater of Nations Yevgeny Mironov came to the ceremony with his son, and chief director of the Russian Army Theater Alexander Lazarev with his daughter and mother — People's Artist of the RSFSR Svetlana Nemolyaeva. Serbian actor Milos Bikovic shared his opinion with reporters about the upcoming Turkish version of the film «Slave». Singer Sergei Zhukov came to the Moscow International Film Festival with his children, and actress Olga Kabo with her son. The ceremony was also attended by the lead singer of the Lyube group Nikolai Rastorguev, singer Jasmine, TV presenters Olga Buzova and Yulia Baranovskaya, actors Dmitry Dyuzhev and Maxim Stoyanov, actresses Elena Lyadova, Ekaterina Guseva, Nastasya Samburskaya, Ekaterina Klimova and Marina Kravets.
“It’s a pity that Moscow is greeting you with such harsh weather today, but we promise to warm you with our hospitality in the coming days… Together we will enjoy a wonderful, very strong, very vibrant program of diverse national cinema from various parts of our planet. It is very dear to us that you entrusted us with their work, that it is important for you to share your most important creation — a new painting,” said Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova before the ceremony.
The guests of the MIFF-2024 were the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, the Russian Presidential Advisor for Culture Vladimir Tolstoy, the Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Commission on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media Alexey Pushkov, the Deputy General Director of the Gazprom-Media holding Tina Kandelaki and others.
The ceremony opened with a video showing footage from the life of the first cosmonaut of the USSR, Yuri Gagarin: his 90th birthday is celebrated in 2024. Gagarin became the first person to fly into space, and Russian filmmakers were the first to shoot a film in space, noted the host of the ceremony, actor and director Sergei Bezrukov.
The Moscow International Film Festival will last until April 26. More than 240 films from 56 countries will be presented in 18 programs.
MIFF is one of the oldest festivals in the world, it was first held in 1935, the chairman of the jury was director Sergei Eisenstein. Since 1959, the festival began to be held regularly. Over the past 20 years, the festival jury has been headed by the world's largest filmmakers, including Richard Gere, Theo Angelopoulos, Alan Parker, Luc Besson, Hector Babenco, Kim Kiduk.
