MOSCOW, April 23 The M.V. Khrunichev Center is going to build the first copy of the modernized Angara-A5M heavy-class rocket in 2025 year, said the general director of the company, Alexey Varochko, in an interview.
«According to the plans of the Khrunichev Center, the Angara-A5M rocket should be created in 2025,» Varochko said.
He noted that it would be advisable to use one heavy-class rocket at both the Vostochny cosmodrome and the Plesetsk cosmodrome. Answering the question when the modernized missile will replace the “conventional” one, Varochko pointed out the need to develop a number of organizational documents, which will determine the timing of the transition to the Angara-A5M.
According to the head of the enterprise, Angara-A5 can be used both for delivering heavy vehicles into geostationary orbit and for group launching satellites into sun-synchronous orbit.
“In addition, the relevant documentation has been prepared for the launches of the light-class Angara-1.2 rocket. When this project is implemented, it will become possible to launch the light Angara from the same launch complex to form and replenish multi-satellite constellations,” he said about the prospects for the development of the launch complex at the Vostochny cosmodrome.
Previously, Roscosmos General Director Yuri Borisov said that the first launch of the modernized Angara-A5M will take place in 2027. It will be combined with comprehensive testing of a new Russian manned spacecraft.
«Angara-A5M» is distinguished by engines boosted by ten percent. Due to this, it will be able to launch up to 27 tons of payload into low Earth orbit. When launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome, Angara-A5 launches a little less than 24 tons, and from Vostochny — 24.5 tons.
