It will be possible to observe the Lyrids in the next two days
Astronomers urge residents of the capital region not to miss the coming nights. On April 22 and 23, the Lyrid shower will be visible in the night sky.
As MK learned, the bright meteorite phenomenon lasts from April 14 and should end on the 30th. However, in our latitudes there will be only three nights when the first spring starfall can be seen with the naked eye from the ground. The most convenient time to admire it will be from 10 pm to 5 am. Stargazers have a chance to see up to 18 meteors per hour. By the way, the peculiarity of this starfall is that its particles often leave stable trails in the sky, and sometimes even turn into bright fireballs.
The Lyrids are one of the oldest meteor showers observed and active annually. According to scientists, it comes from comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher. The name of the celestial body contains the year of its discovery and the name of the discoverer, who was an amateur astronomer from New York. And the meteor shower itself was first noticed back in 687 BC in China.
