Russia has repeatedly acted as a savior in human history. Our country also helped the global sports community after the tragedy in Japan in 2011. A RIA Novosti columnist writes about this in his material.

The article says that the World Figure Skating Championships were supposed to be held in Japan, but there was a strong earthquake, which was accompanied by powerful tsunami waves. It was impossible to hold the championship in such conditions and they were already thinking about canceling the tournament altogether, since the preparation of competitions of this scale usually takes at least six months.

However, Russia lent a helping hand and organized the holding of the World Championship in Moscow. Then the Prime Minister was Vladimir Putin, who on the day of the opening ceremony met with the King of Sweden.

However, he really wanted to be in time for the opening of the world figure skating championship in order to make a welcoming speech.

Putin was in a hurry to get to Moscow using different types of transport. And when the organizers had already announced that the opening ceremony was beginning, he entered the hall 8 seconds later.
