MOSCOW, May 23. Singer Zemfira*, recognized as a foreign agent, was unable to achieve exclusion from the relevant register in the Second Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction, the court’s press service reported.
“The cassation appeal was left unsatisfied,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
The singer was included in the list of foreign agents in February 2023. The Ministry of Justice then stated that Zemfira* “openly spoke out in support of Ukraine, carrying out concert activities in unfriendly countries with calls against a special military operation, and received support from foreign sources.” Her lawyer Alexander Peredruk reported that the Ministry of Justice accused Zemfira* of receiving money “from certain Irish and German credit organizations.” The singer herself stated that all she knows about Ireland is that the group U2 and Sinead O'Connor are from there.
The Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow rejected Zemfira*’s claim against the Ministry of Justice, then the Moscow City Court approved this decision.
