Chery has published the first official photos of the eQ7 mid-size electric crossover, which is nothing more than a restyled version of the Chery eQ5 crossover, which has not achieved as any notable success in the market.
Chery, being one of the largest Chinese automakers, so far has a meager range of electric vehicles: the brand covers the lower budget segment of urban electric cars well, but is poorly represented in the compact and mid-size segments. Chery's first electric crossover designed from the ground up was the mid-size eQ5, aka the Big Ant, which debuted in 2020. Public statistics show that the total sales of Chery eQ5 since the debut did not exceed 2000 units, and at the beginning of this year the model completely disappeared from the brand's main website.

In March, the Chinese Ministry of Industry published the first photos of Chery's new electric crossover, currently known as the eQ7, and last weekend the company itself released the first dose of official shots, accompanied by a short press release. This press release does not mention the eQ5 model in any way, but based on the description of the platform, dimensions, overall body proportions, the shape of the doors and wheel arches, it is clear that the eQ7 is an updated eQ5.

The crossover is based on a modular aluminum LFS platform with a battery mounted in the floor, the front suspension is of the McPherson type, and the rear is an independent multi-link. The only electric motor is located on the rear axle and rotates the rear wheels, in the eQ7 its maximum power is 155 kW (211 hp), in the eQ5 — 150 kW (204 hp). The battery capacity of the eQ7 is not yet specified, while the eQ5 is 77.1 kWh and has a range of 510 km on a single charge on the legacy NEDC cycle.

In fact, only the design of the Chery eQ7 can be assessed for now, and the technical details will probably become known after the imminent premiere. If the eQ5 copied the styling of early Lynk & Co, the eQ7 in front strongly resembles the larger crossover Nio ES7 (overall length — 4903 mm) and the “seven” in the index also, as it were, virtually ties the new Chery to a competitor. The eQ7 feed is the same as the eQ5, but the decor on the rear bumper has become smaller. The interior of the eQ7, judging by the official sketches, will be decorated more minimalistically than the eQ5, but will not change fundamentally.
