Gordon Murray T.33 Spider: Analog aesthetics, naturally aspirated V12 and removable hardtop

Founded by legendary British designer Gordon Murray, Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) has unveiled an open-top Spider version of the T.33 mid-engined two-seat supercar . The novelty will be released in a limited edition of 100 copies.

The authority of Gordon Murray (the creator of the McLaren F1 supercar and several outstanding Formula 1 racing cars) made the eponymous and still very young car company (founded in 2017) very successful — its supercars are sold out even before the premiere. The two-seater T.33 supercar saw the light of day in 2022, and this week the company showed its open Spider version.

In parts technology, the Spider version is no different from the coupe, the dimensions have not changed a millimeter (length — 4398 mm, width — 1850 mm, height — 1135 mm, wheelbase — 2735 mm), a removable hard carbon fiber roof, consisting of two sections, and a row Other minor technical changes added 18 kg of dry weight to the Spider compared to the coupe, but the final figure is still impressive — 1108 kg.

In fact, the new version of the T.33 has a targa-type body, since the massive arch behind the cockpit is not retractable and acts as a force protection in case of a rollover. GMA publishes quite detailed technical specifications of its supercars, but fundamentally keeps silent about the accelerating dynamics, as it does not chase record figures, emphasizing the overall excellent balance and driving pleasure. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that the V12 provides impressive acceleration from any speed: a maximum power of 617 hp. achieved at 10,250 rpm, maximum torque of 451 Nm at 6,750 rpm, with 75% of maximum torque already available from 2,500 rpm. An additional short-term increase in power and torque is provided by a 48-volt starter-alternator.

The transmission of the Spider is only a mechanical 6-speed Xtrac (the coupe was also offered with a «robot»), it weighs only 82 kg. All power is sent to the rear wheels via a self-locking differential. Suspension — passive, spring, on double wishbones «in a circle», the rear suspension is attached directly to the gearbox housing. Brakes — carbon-ceramic, front disc diameter — 370 mm (6-piston calipers), rear diameter — 340 mm (4-piston calipers). The price of the Gordon Murray T.33 Spider has not been officially announced, but according to British magazine Autocar, it is 1.8 million pounds, circulation — 100 copies.
