Kosovo moves its embassy in London to a £6.5 million building Hyde Park Mansion, once owned by comedian Spike Milligan.
Bayswater Arts and Crafts Facility was bought by Kosovo after a deal agreed upon by the country's ambassador, Ilir Kapiti. The Embassy of Kosovo is currently located on John Street in Holborn.
Milligan and fellow writer Eric Sykes bought the 5,697 sq. feet in 1962, turning it into the headquarters of his comedy cooperative, Associated London Scripts.
Doctor Who screenwriter Terry Nation conceived the Daleks while working on the building's second floor, and Dennis Spooner used it to write scripts for the series «Thunderbirds» and «Scat».
Milligan — co-author of The Thug Show and author of Adolf Hitler: My Role in His Downfall — sold his interest in the mansion at 9 Orme Court to Sykes in the early 1970s, who continued to work on its ground floor until his death in 2012. year. The property then passed to the Sikes family.
The mansion, built in the 1890s, has a series of large rooms on the first and second floors, high ceilings and high windows, and is located in one of the most sought-after areas of the embassy.< /p>
Employees of the Kosovo embassy intend to move into the building after the completion of repairs.
