Arnold Schwarzenegger was wrong to take the city's renovation into his own hands, according to Los Angeles officials, who said he filled in a service trench, not a pothole.
The Terminator star and former state governor shared a video of him wearing his trademark sunglasses filling a hole with asphalt he says he's been complaining about for three weeks.
But a city official said, that a celebrity thwarted a gas pipeline repair and used the wrong material to cover the trench.
Sharing the video on social media, Schwarzenegger said: “Today, after the whole area was upset because of this giant pothole, due to behind which cars and bicycles broke down for several weeks, I went out with my team and fixed it.”
He added, «I always say let's not complain, let's do something about it. Here.
The video, accompanied by cheerful music, shows a passing driver stopping to thank Schwarzenegger for his help.
“Welcome. You must do it yourself. This is madness. I have been waiting for three weeks for this hole to close,” he told her.Action star Arnold Schwarzenegger has shown he doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. Photo: MEGA/MEGA
The 75-year-old Republican served as governor of California for two terms until 2011.
Daniel Ketchel, a spokesman for Schwarzenegger, said the actor-turned-politician filled out what he thought were two separate potholes in a road in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.
«Arnold was upset about all the complaints he kept hearing from other people in the neighborhood,» said Mr. Ketchell.
But a spokesman for the Los Angeles Department of Public Works said the hole was in fact a necessary trench to service a local utility company to upgrade the pipeline system on the road.
«It's not a pothole,» a spokesman for NBC News told . «This is a service trench associated with active, authorized work being done on site by SoCalGas, which expects the work to be completed by the end of May.»
To add insult to injury, SoCalGas stated that Schwarzenegger's impromptu repairs would not actually work since the street is paved with concrete, not asphalt. jpg» /> Tired of a huge pothole in his neighborhood, Schwarzenegger took a shovel and backfilled it himself
The piping system upgrade was completed in January, and the Los Angeles-based company typically paved continuously within 30 days of completing its works.
However, the company said recent storms and heavy rains in the city have delayed repairs.
On Wednesday, SoCalGas said its workers leveled the site with compaction equipment to give more strength to the temporary pavement. They hope to complete the paving by the end of this week.
A Schwarzenegger rep shared photos with Fox News of an area where a danger sign is visible in the middle of the road, blocking a significant portion of the road. street.
Second photo shows another hole that the spokesperson said is not a service trench and which the City did not list in their filings.
Separately, Mr. Ketchell said Los Angeles Times that if Schwarzenegger's actions shed light on the problem, it was a positive development.
He added that the actor did not «attack city officials.»
< p>" ;He knows how much work Mayor Karen Bass has. It's more of a reminder that all of this can be done quickly,” Mr. Ketchell said.
