The presentation of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV took place about a year ago — in April 2022. Now, in anticipation of the Shanghai Motor Show, which will open its doors tomorrow, the German manufacturer has declassified the top version of the crossover – the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV. In the status of a concept, the novelty debuted in September 2021, and now the luxurious novelty is presented in a serial embodiment.

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV has the same length and wheelbase as the «regular» Mercedes-Benz electric crossover: 5125 and 3210 mm, respectively. There are several expected differences in appearance, for example, a different plug in place of the radiator grill: it has the same shape, but its pattern is made of thin vertical stripes, and the brand logo is absent in the usual place (the emblem in the form of a three-beam star was placed higher on the hood) .
The top-end crossover has a different design of the front air intake and fog lights, while the shape of the head optics and the design of the stern remain the same. The exterior of the Maybach traditionally has a lot of chrome elements. Also on the list of external differences are rims of the original design with a diameter of either 21 or 22 inches. A two-tone body color is available for an additional charge, but Digital Light matrix headlights are included in the basic package.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is also different from the «regular» version. Finishing includes natural nappa leather and decorative wood veneer inserts. The huge MBUX Hyperscreen digital panel, which includes several screens, including a virtual “tidy”, is part of the basic equipment. The multimedia system received a different graphics with several display modes — Discreet, Sporty and Maybach.Unlike the «regular» EQS SUV, the Maybach has separate captain's chairs in the second row with heating, ventilation and a massage function; There is a separate heating in the area of the neck and shoulders. The seats have been moved deeper aft to increase legroom for rear passengers. The cabin has a separate removable touch panel with which you can control the on-board systems. Optionally available are separate screens for rear passengers (their diagonal is 11.6 inches), as well as folding tables plus a refrigerated compartment designed to store bottles. Interior lighting is provided by 253 LEDs, and each of them has 64 working colors. Customizable ceiling lamps integrated into the rear roof pillars are also responsible for interior lighting. In addition, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV received a 15-speaker Burmester sound system.The top crossover is equipped with a twin-engine power plant (one electric motor on each axle). The total output of the system is 658 hp, and the maximum torque is 950 Nm (114 hp and 92 Nm more than the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 SUV). Due to the clutch disconnecting the front electric motor from the wheels, Maybach uses only rear-wheel drive when driving in highway modes. The traction battery is the same as in other versions of the EQS SUV — the capacity is 107.8 kWh, the passport power reserve on a single charge is 600 km. Top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h. The luxury crossover takes 4.4 seconds to accelerate from standstill to “hundreds” (0.2 seconds less than the performance with an index of 580).
The production of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV will be launched at the American plant of the German company; Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and EQE SUV are now produced there. The price of the luxury crossover has not yet been made public, it will be announced later.
