Julian Knight has said he will not seek the return of the Tory whip and will not stand in the next general election after the police cleared him of sexual assault charges.
The Solihull MP tweeted: “I will not run for the Conservatives or any other party in the next general election. Last year was the worst year for me and my wife in our lives.
"The false and malicious accusation leveled against me last December caused untold damage to my physical and mental well-being, as well as pain and suffering to my loved ones.» Last month, Mr. Knight claimed he was subjected to a «witch hunt» after conservatives refused to re-admit him to a party, despite the police dropping their investigation. as they stated that «additional complaints» were filed against him.
'Desperate attempt' on the «cover-up»
Mr. Knight hit back, accusing the party of a «desperate attempt» at the «cover-up.»
The MP was barred from the Tory due to an initial allegation he had always denied.
In March, it emerged that the police had dropped their investigation, and Mr. Knight called for the «immediate» return of the whip.
However, the Tories said it would not be allowed again. as «further complaints» are received, which will be referred «if necessary» to the police.
A spokesperson for Simon Hart, Chief Whip, said: «Following further complaints filed with the whip office, we will not be returning the whip Julian Knight.
«These complaints, if appropriate, will be forwarded to the appropriate police or authorities.»
