New York Mayor Eric Adams compared women «plantation owner» after she pointed him out asking about a rent increase.
An elderly woman criticized Mr. Adams at a Manhattan City Hall meeting on Wednesday for allowing a rent-stabilized increase .
Footage from the event shows a woman pointing her finger at the mayor and saying, «You said before and after that you supported the rent increase.»
Mr. Adams, the city's second black mayor, can be heard responding, «If you're going to ask a question, don't point fingers at me and don't disrespect me.»
«I am the mayor of this city treat me with the respect I deserve. I'm talking to you like an adult.»

He added, «Don't stand in front as if you were treating someone who is on your plantation. Give me the respect I deserve and join the conversation. Don't point your finger at me, talk to me like an adult, because I am a grown man.
«I entered this room as a grown man and I will leave this room as a grown man.»
Last week, the Rent Board raised the rent for one million rent-stable apartments in New York City. The maximum increase is six percent over a two-year period.
Mr Adams said he has no control over the rental board that introduced the increase.
The increase is one of the highest increases in decade caused by inflation and rising landlord costs. This year's and 2022's increases were the highest since 2013.
A committee known as the Rent Board voted five to four in favor of a 3% increase in annual rents and a rent up 2.75% in the first year and 3.2% in the second year.
Mr Adams said in a statement after the vote that the board found the «right balance» this year and was protecting tenants, and «providing small property owners with the resources they need to maintain their buildings.»
