Ron DeSantis 'sends his wife on the campaign trail to revive a faltering presidential bid'

Ron DeSantis sent by his wife Casey is out of the 2024 Republican presidential campaign as he tries to revive his shaky presidential bid, sources say.

Ms. DeSantis has been described as the «humanizer» of the presidential candidate's campaign, largely due to her ability to interact with the public.

Meanwhile, Mr. DeSantis, the 44-year-old governor of Florida, has come under fire for his lack of charisma and failure to connect with voters. His wooden character has previously been attacked by Donald Trump, his arch-rival, who said he «needs a personality transplant.»

Polls show Mr. DeSantis trailing Mr. Trump by about 30 percent, prompting Ms. DeSantis to jump into the fray by performing solo earlier than planned, sources said.

The 43-year-old former local TV presenter made her first solo appearance earlier this month when she formed her group Mamas for DeSantis in Iowa.

Reputed to be a master at wooing crowds with funny anecdotes, she started off by joking about being happy leave their three children, Madison, Mason and Mamie, at home.

And she told the audience: «As long as I have breath in my body, I will go out and fight for Ron DeSantis, not because he is my husband — it's part of it — but because I believe in him every time. an ounce of my being.»

Emboldened by his rival's unfavorable poll results, Trump wrote on social media Monday: «DeSanctus: very ungrateful guy! Now his poll scores are INCREDIBLE!»

Less than two months after Mr. DeSantis announced his bid for the White House at a Twitter event marred by technical glitches, his wife's participation is part of a major campaign twist.

Other aspects of this include Mr. DeSantis convening a group of donors in Tallahassee for an encouraging briefing. He also hosted a reception at his mansion on Sunday afternoon. His team called those who couldn't make it to stress that presidential campaigns usually go through tough times, sources say. CNN is scheduled for Tuesday, his first major TV interview with a non-conservative publication.

It comes as the Republican candidate was forced to fire about 10 staffers who packed their bags on Friday as campaign funds began to dry up amid his fight for profits against Trump.

The campaign staff was over 90 people, and donations didn't flow at the rate to keep them going. He spent nearly $8 million, leaving Mr. DeSantis with only $12 million.

This includes $3 million that cannot be spent before the general election if he becomes the Republican nominee. As a result, he is left with significantly less cash than Trump, who has $22.5 million.

Mr. DeSantis is now focusing his efforts on the states of Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire, where the early voting. He is hosting a major donor road trip in Park City, Utah this weekend, two invitees told Bloomberg.
