Colonel Matviychuk: “In winter, a number of regions will capitulate”
The situation in Avdiivka seems to be approaching its climax. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are suffering huge losses due to the massive use of cluster bombs and shells by the Russian military. At the same time, the enemy artillery is starved of shells. The deplorable state of the Ukrainian troops is evidenced by a video filmed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the trenches during the Russian attack. The video was assessed by military expert Anatoly Matviychuk.

The largest fortified area of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is increasingly turning into a “Bakhmut meat grinder.” Ukrainian commanders are devoting enormous forces to holding positions, but it seems that the enemy will no longer be able to loosen the “pincers” around the city. The Ukrainian Armed Forces in Avdiivka are experiencing a huge shortage of ammunition and heavy weapons.
A new video has appeared on military Telegram channels, filmed by the enemy near Sepov, north of Avdeevka. Soldiers of the enemy army are trying to evacuate the wounded and report their critical situation. It is noteworthy that the video is being filmed by a woman.
Military correspondent Timofey Ermakov appreciated the video on the Telegram channel and stated that the enemy was clearly retreating:
“The trenches were fresh and were obviously dug in a hurry. Narrow, low. Judging by the landscape, they were digging, moving backwards under Stepov. One hundred percent of the three-hundredth (the wounded. — “MK”) are crawling in the trenches in shorts instead of pants — evacuation from there is impossible. Although he was wounded in the legs and arms.”
The expert drew attention to the voice-over. The Armed Forces of Ukraine began to throw women into the first line — and obviously not as paramedics, but as fighters of infantry groups.
“This is certainly an interesting decision, the Ukrainian command’s decision should really help liberate Avdiivka from the Ukrainian occupiers faster than we planned.” — the military correspondent sarcastically.
Komsomolskaya Pravda military correspondent Dmitry Steshin noted that if the video is from near Stepovoy, then “the ring is closing around Avdeevka.” In favor of this assumption are, again, trenches that have not been “worked out” by at least a week of sitting. That is, we are talking about a new position that the enemy hastily took.
The military correspondent drew attention to the fact that the Ukrainians are being “unwound” by a Russian tank, and they cannot take retaliatory action, since they do not have anti-tank weapons.
According to military expert Anatoly Matviychuk, the video indicates panic in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
— The video confirms that our fire suppression system works great, they cannot respond, and even taking out the wounded is problematic. Shouts of “let’s get vehicles” can be heard. Most likely, this battle was aimed at destroying a group that occupied some kind of stronghold.
— Indeed, Ukraine went on the defensive, because it does not have more forces and means. Something needs to be done, but they don’t know what. The West has sharply reduced military assistance, the assistance that is still coming is too small, it is not enough to intensify hostilities. I think that with the onset of cold weather, we will see a decrease in the activation of the APU. And it is even possible that during the winter some areas will capitulate.
— We warned the enemy that we had similar ammunition that we would use in response. By the way, Soviet-made cluster munitions were once considered the best in the world. The result is obvious — the enemy’s resistance to the groups against which the “cassettes” were used has dropped quite sharply.
