ST. PETERSBURG, January 8. Vladimir Khavinson, an outstanding Russian scientist, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, director of the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, died at the age of 78, the institute reported on its website.
“On January 5, 2024, at the age of 78, the outstanding Russian scientist, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, retired colonel of the medical service, doctor of medical sciences, professor, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Khatskelevich Khavinson passed away,” the message says.
Khavinson is the director of the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, which has UN ECOSOC consultative status, vice-president of the Gerontological Society at the Russian Academy of Sciences, chief researcher — head of the scientific group for the study of peptide regulation of aging at the I.P. Institute of Physiology. Pavlova RAS, head of the laboratory of personality quality at the North-Western Institute of Management of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation. He was also an advisor to the chairman of the St. Petersburg social policy committee and a member of the executive committee of the European Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics.

Vladimir Khavinson is a graduate of the S.M. Kirov Military Medical Academy. In 1988, he headed the research laboratory of bioregulators. Under his leadership, a new group of medicinal peptide drugs with high physiological activity, some of which have no foreign analogues, was also created and studied.
Khavinson hosted the popular science program “About the Most Important Thing” on the Rossiya TV channel, in which he talked about complex processes in the human body.
Farewell to the scientist will take place on January 9 in the ritual hall of the club of the Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg. The funeral service will take place in the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God at the Smolensk cemetery.
