A retrospective of Sergei Debizhev's films has begun in Moscow

MOSCOW, January 25 A retrospective of the films of documentary filmmaker Sergei Debizhev began on January 24 at the Oktyabrsky cinema.
The first picture that was shown to the viewer was the avant-garde “Two Captains — 2” with Sergei Kuryokhin. This work was shown on screen for the first time in 30 years, the press service of the Two Captains film company clarified.
“Now this picture looks like this, but in 1990-91, when everything was squeezed ideologically, and suddenly “let go,” then this began — and we could not help but go through it, and we did,” Debizhev said after the show , discussing the film with the audience.

Answering a question about the changes that led him from “Two Captains — 2” to “The Holy Archipelago” (about Orthodoxy and the Solovetsky Monastery), he noted that over the past 30 years “absolutely complete transformation.»

“Everything is changing. We went from wild avant-garde artists, by the way, we did not leave the human framework, we turned into real soil people who understand the power of tradition and feel the breath of eternity,” the director explained.
The retrospective will end on February 4 with the premiere of the film “City of Gold,” which, according to Debizhev, reveals the secret of the great musical hoax of the 20th century — “a film about how one composer sacrificed his name and fame so that beautiful music could find its way to listeners.»
Screenings will take place in Moscow, at the Oktyabr cinema, from January 24 to February 4, and in St. Petersburg, at the Warsaw Express, from January 31 to February 11.
The retrospective will be held within the framework of the KARO.Art project with the support of the film distribution company «Kino.Art.Pro» and dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the film company «Two Captains». The program includes 11 films, including “Incandescent Chaos,” “Holy Archipelago,” “Rock Beyond,” “The Last Knight of the Empire,” and the adventurous drama “The Golden Ratio,” the press service of the “Two Captains” film company said.

Sergey Debizhev is a documentarian, film director, screenwriter, cultural critic, public figure, author of more than 30 feature and documentary films. He began his career by creating the first music videos for many famous rock musicians, the press service added.
