Announced last year, the open-top version has now had its own premiere. The convertible will be released on the European market this coming spring.
There are no two-door modifications in the current Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class families, as they have been replaced by a couple of new products — “out-of-class” Mercedes-Benz coupe and convertible CLE. At the same time, the “closed” two-door made its debut last summer, and the German company completely declassified the open-top version only now.

Like the coupe, the Mercedes-Benz CLE convertible is similar in appearance to the C-Class: the models have similar body lines, as well as the shape and pattern of the narrow radiator grille, and a set of stampings on the hood. The main difference from the coupe, of course, is the folding soft roof. The top can be made in one of three colors to choose from – black, red and gray. It takes 20 seconds to transform the roof, and you can lower and raise the top at speeds of up to 60 km/h. With the roof up, the trunk volume is 385 liters, and with the roof folded – 295 liters.
The length of the new CLE convertible is 4850 mm, width – 1861 mm, height – 1424 mm, and the distance between the axles is 2865 mm . The company noted that compared to its predecessor, the C-class convertible, the wheelbase is 25 mm longer; as a result of the changes, second-row passengers have an additional 72 mm in the knee area.
The interior of the Mercedes-Benz CLE is approximately the same as that of the coupe: on the front panel there is a virtual instrument panel with a diagonal of 12.3 inches, and in the center there is a vertical tablet of the MBUX infotainment system with a diagonal of 11.9 inches. By the way, the tilt level of the display can be changed (in the range from 15 to 40 degrees), this should help protect the screen from glare when driving with the top open.

The interior is trimmed in leather (five color variations are offered), and, as Mercedes-Benz said, , the material has received a special coating that reflects the sun's rays of the near-infrared range, which makes the temperature of the leather used for finishing 12 degrees cooler even in direct sunlight (compared to untreated material). An optional Burmester sound system with seventeen speakers is available.

All versions of the CLE convertible are equipped with Aircap and Airscarf systems. In the first case, we are talking about two electric retractable air vents, they are located on the windshield frame and behind the second row seats. Their task is to direct the air flow over the heads of the riders. The second system works through air ducts at the headrests of the front seats: they supply warm air to the shoulders and neck of the driver and passenger.

The CLE convertible will initially be offered in four versions. The starting rear-wheel drive CLE 200 d will have a 2.0-liter 197-horsepower turbodiesel (440 Nm) under the hood. Next comes the front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive CLE 200 with a 204-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-four petrol engine (320 Nm). In the CLE 300 version, the same engine produces 258 hp. (400 Nm); All-wheel drive is 4Matic only. The top version of the CLE 450 is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline 381-horsepower turbo-six (500 Nm). This option reaches the first “hundred” in 4.7 seconds. All versions are paired with a 48-volt starter-generator and a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The Mercedes-Benz CLE convertible will hit the European market at the end of April this year. The starting price in Germany is 66,402 euros, and for the top version they ask for at least 88,357 euros.
