Ford Mondeo is about to become a family again: the sedan will be joined by a “raised” five-door, which never became an independent model achieved success.
The Ford Evos cross-liftback was presented in 2021. The five-door was developed specifically for China, its production was launched at the plant of a joint venture between Ford and the Changan company. By the way, it was initially believed that the Evos would replace the Mondeo. However, Mondeo was still retained in the Chinese range of brands: the new generation sedan debuted in 2022, it is assembled by the same joint venture. The liftback failed on the market.

According to local specialized media, during 2022-2024. monthly sales of Ford Evos only broke the 800 unit mark a couple of times. And the result of the first three months of this year is only 576 units (hereinafter – statistics from BestSellingCarsBlog). For comparison, the Ford Mondeo sedan sold over 15,600 copies in China from January to March 2024. Nevertheless, Changan Ford is not giving up the Evos liftback, it’s just now decided to rename it… Mondeo Sport (according to another version, the liftback will be called Mondeo Sports Edition). This decision looks quite logical, because the sedan and the five-door are closely related: the appearance is designed in the same way, and even their interiors are almost the same. Well, let us remind you that the previous global Mondeo was also a family (sedan, liftback and station wagon).

Judging by the branded pictures of the Ford Mondeo Sport, which have already been replicated by many “heavenly” media, such a five-door will not differ from the Evos in terms of design. Except that the nameplates will be replaced, plus the inscription Mondeo will appear on the stern under the brand emblem instead of Evos. The dimensions will obviously remain the same: length – 4920 mm versus 4935 mm for the Mondeo sedan, wheelbase – the same 2945 mm as the four-door. There are no photos of the interior of the Mondeo Sport yet, but its reforms will most likely not be affected. The main feature is the giant scoreboard.

The Ford Evos is still on sale; it is available with a single 2.0 EcoBoost petrol turbo-four (238 hp), which is paired with a classic eight-speed automatic transmission. But the Mondeo Sport cross-liftback will be offered as a hybrid: the system will include a 2.0T petrol engine and an electric motor, the total output has not yet been announced. The Mondeo sedan's hybrid version appeared last year, and it has a different filling — the unit is based on a 1.5 turbo engine, the total power is 208 hp. The “traditional” four-door can be purchased with a 1.5T (190 hp) or 2.0T (254 hp), both engines are combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
