SWM plans to introduce the new product to the Russian market by the end of the year

The production of a new car of the Chinese brand, even the name of which is still kept secret at the local office, will be established at Avtotor.

The fact that the assembly of models of the Chinese brand SWM with Italian roots will start at the facilities of the Kaliningrad Avtotor plant was reported back in April last year. Now this brand is owned by the Shineray group, in the Russian Federation its interests are represented by Vostok Wind Rus LLC. The fact that the brand was finally entering the Russian market became known in November 2023, and in December sales of three SWM crossovers were launched.

The current Russian line includes the SWM G01 (its length is 4610 mm), its “sportier” version SWM G01F (4670 mm) and the larger crossover SWM G05 Pro (4750 mm), the latter being offered with either five- or seven-seater interior layout. Moreover, all of the listed SUVs have the same wheelbase — 2750 mm, and also have the same technology.

Thus, the SWM G01, G01F and G05 have a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine under the hood, the output of which is 139 hp and the maximum torque is 212 Nm. This engine is paired with a non-alternative seven-speed robotic transmission with two clutches. All three crossovers can only have front-wheel drive.

Today in the Russian office they talked about that it is planned to introduce another new product to the Russian car market by the end of this year, and its production will also be established at Avtotor. So far there is no information about the future model (including its name), details will become known later.

At the same time, in addition to the G01, G01F and G05, the home line of the SWM brand also includes the mid-size crossover Big Tiger, as well as its hybrid version with the addition of EDi to the name (debuted in February last year).

As the company said, the Shineray group intends to develop a plan “to invest in the equity capital of the official distributor of the SWM brand in Russia” (we are talking about Vostok Wind Rus LLC). As a result of the investment, it is expected to “expand the conditions for ensuring sustainable demand for the brand’s products” (sales are expected to increase by at least four times) and “increase production capacity.”

So, at the local representative office noted that within the framework of the agreed plan for the development of the SWM brand in the Russian Federation, the creation of a full-cycle production with welding and painting of bodies with a capacity of up to 40 thousand cars annually is being discussed. The project is supposed to be implemented at Avtotor in Kaliningrad.
