Boris Johnson's allies have been criticized for exerting «undue pressure» on a privileges committee that was considering allegations that he lied to MPs about party gates.
The committee called attention to the comments of senior MPs including Nadine Dorris, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg and Priti Patel, along with Lord Goldsmith, the current minister.
“These members have not chosen to engage in any due process such as submission letters or evidence for our investigation, but attacked committee members to influence their decision,” the committee report says.
It stated that their purpose was to “influence the results of the investigation «,» interfere with the work of the committee by inciting members to withdraw from it. «, and «discredit the committee's conclusions if those conclusions were not what they wanted.»
The report added: «The committee is particularly concerned about attacks from experienced colleagues, including the current Minister of the Crown, the former leader House of Representatives and former Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sports.”
