Danny Cipriani claims that Owen Farrell and George Ford were part of the «mafia» that led the England team to the 2015 World Cup and revealed the secret of their scandal with manager Mike Catt before this tournament.
< p>In another passage from his autobiography, Who Am I?, published in The Sunday Times, Cipriani says that sex became a «form of self-mutilation» during the period when he «sleeped with three different women in one day.» » ten years ago.
Cipriani is highly critical of Stuart Lancaster's preparation for the 2015 World Cup, suggesting that Sam Burgess also felt that coaches, including Andy Farrell, were «treating players like children.»
“Everyone knows that there is a group of players who help run the team: Owen [Farrell], George Ford, Chris Robshaw, Dan Cole, Ben Youngs and a few others,” writes Cipriani. “They are called the 'leader group', but they are more like a mafia, always looking intriguing. However, I get along just fine with most of them. At least I think so.
“Sam is in a WhatsApp group with the mafia, until one day he posts a photo of us with him in a cafe on Instagram. Hours later, George takes a screenshot and sends it to Sam before removing him from the group. Sam doesn't care, but I guess I'm not sure how I offended them, but obviously I'm not as welcome here as I thought.
The book is alive again. Cipriani's expulsion from England's World Cup squad, followed by a heated confrontation with Catt during training. Catt is depicted arguing with Cipriani and demanding extra effort, although the latter has just found out that he is going to be fired.
“It looked blatantly unfair, like a direct mockery,” Cipriani writes about Catt’s behavior. “And people generally don't like injustice or bullies. But when this story leaked out, the blame is placed on me. It doesn't matter what I tell the press that this is just one of those things and that Mike Catt and I have a good working relationship because I don't want to get in the way of England preparing for the World Cup. I must be a problem because the truth doesn't fit with the story they've been spinning for the better part of a decade.»
«It's not a secret, I talk about it a bit»
In a separate passage, Cipriani recounts his summer life with Rory Hamilton-Brown, a former Surrey cricketer, in Wandsworth, London. During this period, in June 2012, Tom Maynard, a friend and teammate of Hamilton-Brown, was found dead with alcohol and drugs in his system. In his autobiography, Cipriani suggests that he started that night with Maynard: “One day in June we came to town. Soon things get confusing and a little blurry, but I'm sure it was fun. When I wake up the next morning, I see the news that Tom was hit by a train and died.”
Around the same time, a string of sexual encounters left Cipriani «dejected.»
«I'm not the kind of guy who walks into a pub or a locker room and brags about his latest conquest,» Cipriani says. “But it’s not exactly a secret, which I talk about a bit. Fortunately, most of them do not get into the newspapers. When sex is one of the few things in your life that brings relief, you end up trying to find more and more unusual ways to get your way. I sleep with everyone from pornstars to actresses to girls I meet in cafes. Threesomes have become the norm, but when it ends, I just feel despondent.»
«It may sound like every man's dream, but the art of life is to find the right balance,» Cipriani adds. “And in this respect, sex is no different from eating or drinking. It's okay to love food and drink, but if you enjoy them too much, they can make you deeply unhappy and ruin your life. Sex has become a form of self-harm for me.”
