The positive trend has continued for the 13th month in a row. In August, 787,626 new passenger cars were registered in the EU, which compares with 650,806 vehicles in the previous year.
An increase in sales volumes was recorded in most EU countries, with the exception of Hungary (-10.4 %), Ireland (-0.5%), Lithuania (-0.1%) and Slovenia (-3%). Among countries outside the EU, only Norway showed negative sales dynamics (-10.4%). Germany (+37.3%), France (+24.3%) and Italy (+11.9%) were the leaders in the increase in the number of cars sold.
This double-digit growth in August. when sales usually slow down, indicates a recovery of the EU car market after last year's shortage of components, notes ACEA.
Sales of Volkswagen group cars (including Skoda, Audi, Seat, Porsche and others) in the European Union increased by 21.2%, reaching 209,548 units, Stellantis increased sales by 6.4%, reaching 131,532 units, and Renault Group increased sales by 22.3%, reaching 74,879 units .
South Korean Hyundai Group increased sales by 6.3%, and Japanese Toyota Group — by 17%. The American company Tesla sold almost 27.3 thousand cars in the EU in August, which is twice as many as in the same month last year.
