One of the reasons why the Forester has fallen out of favor is age: Subaru introduced a model codenamed Gen 5 back in 2018.
By the way, the fourth generation SJ was produced between 2012 and 2018 year. It's clear that an extensive redesign is on the horizon, with reports from Japan suggesting the sixth generation will arrive in 2024.
The Halo oto designer has pictured an SK replacement taking influence from various SUVs and the Levorg. Not available in the United States, the Levorg has the same wheelbase (2,670 millimeters) as the Forester but has a longer overall length (4,755 millimeters compared to the Forester's 4,625 millimeters).
Also based on the Subaru Global Platform, which underpins all of the brand's internal combustion engine vehicles except the Solterra EV, the Levorg comes with a choice of 1.8-liter turbocharged or 2.4-liter turbocharged units. The Forester doesn't have a forced-induction engine, but that's said to change in the next generation. For this rumored turbocharged version, Subaru is expected to release the Forester XT designation.
Rumors point to the Outback's 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine, which produces 260 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. Like the current generation, a hybrid naturally aspirated boxer engine will reportedly join the aforementioned unit.
According to Subaru Australia managing director Blair Reid, the electric Forester is likely to be one of eight new electric vehicles set to be introduced by 2028. In a conversation with journalists, he let slip that an updated model range would come to Australia, without going into details. In addition to the zero-emission version, three combustion engine powertrains are expected: the 2.5-liter NA H4, the 2.0-liter NA H4 mild hybrid and the aforementioned 2.4-liter turbocharged unit.
< p>An all-electric Forester is unlikely to use Subaru's existing platform because the SGP was not designed with electric vehicles in mind. Given the automaker's close relationship with Toyota, it is not surprising that the Forester EV will feature Toyota architecture.
