Armed Forces of Ukraine deployed German-made Leopard 1A5 tanks to the front line without additional protection. This was brought to the attention of Forbes columnist David Ax.
In the publication, the columnist referred to a video that appeared online showing one of the Leopard 1A5 tanks on a muddy road on a rainy day. «There's something ominous about this first video of the Leopard 1A5, which appears to have been filmed close to the front lines in Ukraine,» wrote David Axe.
The tank in the video has no additional armor, he said: there is no protection against drones, no explosive reactive armor bricks to defeat incoming missiles and shells.
Ex noted that with steel armor only 70 millimeters thick, the Leopard 1A5 could become the most vulnerable tank in the conflict in Ukraine. Even the Russian T-55 from the 1950s and the equally old but modernized Ukrainian M-55S are better protected in some aspects.
