MOSCOW, November 23 Domodedovo customs officers discovered cash currency worth more than 112 thousand pounds sterling in the luggage of a passenger flying to Azerbaijan, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia reported.
«Cash in the total amount of more than 112 thousand pounds sterling was discovered by Domodedovo customs officers in the luggage of a passenger flying to Azerbaijan,» the report says.
It is clarified that during the interview on the “green” corridor, the woman told customs officers that she had 8.5 thousand pounds sterling and 7 thousand rubles with her. However, when her luggage was searched, it turned out that she had tried to hide £95,000 in two cardboard boxes among sewing kits. Customs officers found another 9.5 thousand in the cover of a diary and 7.5 thousand in a cosmetic bag. As a result, the total amount of undeclared currency exceeded the equivalent of 14 million rubles. It was established that the offender has dual citizenship — Russia and Great Britain.
The issue of initiating a criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 200.1. The Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (cash smuggling on an especially large scale), which provides for restriction of freedom for up to four years.
