YEREVAN, November 24 Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, answering questions from citizens live, said that it is impossible to argue with the huge role of Russian culture in the modern world .
One of the representatives of the Armenian diaspora in Belgium, asking a question to Pashinyan, expressed the opinion that the influence of the Russian language and culture is “the worst that can happen.” Then the questioner asked what was being done in Armenia to neutralize this influence.
«In a political sense, one can have different attitudes towards Russia, but I do not consider it possible to dispute the enormous role of Russian culture in the modern world and civilization. In this sense, I do not agree with a number of your statements… I don’t think it’s possible to question Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich… And so you can list hundreds of names in all spheres — culture, politics, science,” Pashinyan said.
He added that he does not imagine that any other language other than Armenian would receive official status in Armenia, but calls on fellow citizens, and especially young people, to learn foreign languages, including Russian, as this is important for increasing competitiveness in modern world. “Especially in the context of deep economic, cultural, and political ties between Armenia and the Russian Federation,” said the Armenian prime minister.
